The Future of Taxi Business

South African Taxi Associations could be operating formally as Cooperatives but they probably enjoy the freedom of not answering to SARS as members themselves are quite a lot of work to manage in that case they will be handling their own tax affairs as well.

A Cooperative however is  An association formed and operated for the benefit of those using it. So, in Taxi Associations getting in is a process as some monopolize taxi operation and refuse others entry or delay admission for membership.

The most notorious trade associated with Africans in South Africa, is run like a cooperative in every way that matters because they hold meetings regularly, they handle members' daily fees and annual membership fees, they keep their records and present their cases during Annual General Meetings (AGM's) including their income and expenses.

It is run by people who some did not go far with education but they have managed to run it the best way possible. Not forgetting that some who want to take shortcuts would use any opportunity they get to take advantage of the loopholes or any means necessary including violence to eliminate competition or man-handle misunderstandings.

I heard that in some areas, they beat each other up whilst some use guns to sort out their differences... There is a chance to formalize this industry if members will it. This way, it would be easy to deal with defaulters in fees because then their membership would be at stake and Board of Directors would constitute community leaders who have the community's interest at heart. Even tourists would feel a lot safer in public transport.

Are we ready for change yet!?!
