Meroe Pyramids, Sudan
UNESCO, the branch of the United Nations responsible for looking after science, culture and education, has added a number of new locations to their list of World Heritage Sites. These are areas that have special cultural, historical or environmental significance and are afforded special protection by UNESCO. The continent of Africa unsurprisingly has many such sites, the most well-known in South Africa being the Cradle of Humankind. These are the latest locations on the continent to be added to the list.
