BBBEE Compliance

If you did complete the CSD (Central Supplier Database) registration yourself for your company then you have to be a little bit familiar with the requirements of BBBEE compliance as it takes you through the interrogation process regarding the state of your company with those key elements taken into consideration:

  • Decision  makers,
  • Shareholding,
  • Women  involvement,
  • Are there any disabled people in the ownership and decision making processes,
  • Total black ownership,
  • Skills development,
  • Community development
  • Including whether you made money in excess of R10 million during a financial year.
And this information can be used to complete your BBBEE affidavit recognised by the DTi  (Department of Trade and industry) codes of good practice as an empowering supplier.

An empowering supplier would be someone who source raw materials and labour locally to enhance economy, job creation and living standards in a particular area of business.

How Black Economic Empowerment (BEE) Score card works and ratings

Nowadays it is required for businesses to comply with this "Quality Standard" which ensures compliance and true empowerment amongst the disadvantaged hence BEE certification is awarded to companies and individuals that comply.

The BEE compliance is encouraged by government entities to get tenders. Much of the information would have to be verified and it is another way the government is taking steps to ensure that companies are taking the project to consideration and it has become a requirement when awarding tenders.

If you have not made your information publicly available on the web for clients to find you and your information, take advantage of this opportunity to use the web to do as such and take the hassle out of people trying to find you or seek your profile including the accomplished projects. Such information is recorded on the CIDB when registered with it and CIDB updates your information until a Highest Grading possible in line with your current projects as well as the accomplished ones to sum up the value of your business. Use the Grading Designation Calculator to value your business's worth here and the highest grading possible.

One other body that needs to be considered is the NHBRC which Construction companies need to be in contact with for Housing construction and laws that come with it.

To register your business and apply for a Tax Clearance certificate contact me here for more information. The onus would be on you to register in various company databases and get your company out there...
